Roshni Nadar Malhotra is the CEO and Executive Director of the $7.5 billion global enterprise, HCL Corporation. She is responsible for providing strategic guidance to the organization. She is also a Director on the Board of one of the group companies, HCL Technologies, a leading global technology and IT company and the Chairman of its CSR Committee. As Chairman of HCL Tech’s CSR Committee, Roshni is responsible for determining the direction of all HCL Foundation initiatives. Under her guidance, the HCL Foundation is working towards breaking the cycle of poverty for over a million people and achieving 80% of the desired impact by 2020. It is creating a source-code for sustainable socio-economic development by making long-term investments in the fields of education, health, livelihoods and environment, while also providing disaster response and rehabilitation support. The HCL Foundation currently drives three major initiatives including - Samuday, HCL Grant and the Power of One with the aim of designing and implementing scalable and replicable transformative models.
In addition, Roshni is a Trustee of the Shiv Nadar Foundation, which is committed to the process of nation building by driving transformational leadership through education. To that purpose the Foundation has established the SSN Institutions, today among the top private engineering colleges in India, the interdisciplinary Shiv Nadar University, the transformational VidyaGyan Leadership Academies, the progressive Shiv Nadar Schools, the iconic Kiran Nadar Museum of Art and the innovative Shiksha, a technology-led intervention in rural education to eradicate illiteracy from India. Roshni is closely aligned with the management of each institution and monitors the outcomes and impact.
Roshni is the Chairperson and driving force behind VidyaGyan, a leadership academy for the meritorious but economically underprivileged, rural students of Uttar Pradesh. The Academy aims to nurture future leaders from rural India who can act as catalysts of change for their communities, villages and the nation. Roshni has had a hands-on role in terms of not only developing the institution but also driving student outcomes. Students from the first two batches completed school with high average scores (above 80 percent) in their board exams. Several students who have graduated from VidyaGyan have been selected to study at prestigious US Universities such as the Wellesley College and Purdue University, as well as in some of the top Indian colleges including the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), National Institutes of Technology (NIT), National Defense Academy (NDA) and the Delhi University. Roshni envisions VidyaGyan to be an aspirational platform and a beacon of hope for underprivileged meritorious students to dream big and achieve even bigger.
Roshni is a Young Global Leader of the World Economic Forum. She was conferred the prestigious NDTV Young Philanthropist - Indian of the Year award in 2014. In 2015 she was felicitated with The World’s Most Innovative People Award for Philanthropic Innovation by The World Summit on Innovation & Entrepreneurship (WSIE), in partnership with the UN. In 2017, she was conferred with Lewis Institute Community Changemaker Award by Babson College. More recently, in September 2017, Vogue India felicitated her with the ‘Philanthropist of the Year’ award. She was also featured in The World’s 100 Most Powerful Women list compiled and released by Forbes, in 2017.
She is married to Shikhar Malhotra and they have two sons - Armaan & Jahaan.
